about

This song is about the same girl that 9J is about. We had an awesome night at the Empire State Plaza some while ago. People always talk about good chemistry, but to me it felt more like alchemy. This was originally supposed to be played in 5/8, but I decided to keep the measures in 4/4 so that the feel was different. The chorus is some mess of alternating 9/8 and 7/8, then it shifts to 5/8 at the end. You can thank Intronaut for inspiring the nonsensical timing of this segment. For the second verse, Mike and I introduce some bars of a 4:3 (“4-over-3”) pattern, then it locks back in, and then we switch to a 5:4 and go back and forth for a bit. I wanted to end the song with a more chill vibe, so I looked to Midwest Product. The name of the track is also a subtle nod to Full Metal Alchemist. I’m a big anime fan. Deal with it.
